Custom Adhesives: The Downsides of Indirect Dealings
Generally speaking, custom adhesive products only tend to be sourced for projects and purposes of real importance. From bespoke 3M tape suppliers to those who specialise in medical adhesives and all else besides, such manufacturers are trusted to deliver the goods where only flawless results will do. As for those on the business end of the deal, expectations will of course be suitably high. You want the very best quality products, excellent customer service and ideally the lowest possible prices. Which is precisely why it is of real importance to ensure that you buy direct, rather than deal with middlemen and resellers.
Technically speaking, it is perfectly possible to get high quality products relatively easily from those who work as third-party resellers. Nevertheless, there are certain unique advantages and benefits that come with dealing direct, which cannot and will not be replicated when it comes to indirect dealings. It’s not to say that the outcome will not be favourable; it’s simply that the outcome may not be as positive as it could have been.
So with this in mind, here’s a quick overview of the five largest disadvantages that come with indirect dealings, when it comes to ordering and procuring custom adhesive products:
1 – Inadequate Advice
First of all, it is highly unlikely that any reseller or middleman you choose to do business with will have close to the kind of knowledge you’d expect from an experienced manufacturer. The simple fact of the matter is that as such individuals and businesses specialise in selling products made by others, they cannot be expected to know much about the products as those actually making them. Which in turn means that when it comes to things like initial consultations, advice on the latest products and general guidance with regard to purchase decisions, you may not get the best possible advice from a middleman. By contrast, speak to those who know their products and services better than anyone else and you are largely guaranteed superior service.
2 – Limited Product Range
In terms of the actual range of products available, it could be that the reseller in question has, for whatever the reason, decided to limit what they offer to a specific product range. Generally speaking, it is rare to find a middleman that is able or willing to offer the whole spectrum of custom adhesive products you would be able to access if you were to deal directly with the manufacturers. The simple fact of the matter is the more you limit the products available to you, the less likely it is you will take home the exact product for your needs. You may get a product that gets the job done, but you probably won’t get a product that gets the job done flawlessly.
3 – Slower Service
If you would prefer to get hold of your chosen products sooner rather than later, it is always in your best interests to deal direct. When you think about it, involving a reseller or middleman in the purchase process does little other than extend and complicate the purchase process unnecessarily. Rather than taking your order and your questions directly to the manufacturer, you instead relay them via an extra individual or business. Which in turn means that when it comes to placing the order in the first place, getting your questions answered, dealing with any resulting issues and so on, you are largely guaranteed a slower and more drawn-out process than necessary. In every respect, dealing directly with the manufacturer will always be faster and simpler.
4 – Inconsistencies
Something else to bear in mind is the way in which third-party resellers and middlemen often deal with a great many different manufacturers from across the United Kingdom and beyond. Which in turn means that even if you yourself make a repeat order for an identical product, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you will receive the exact same product every time. Instead, it may be sourced from a different manufacturer, in accordance with who is able to offer the reseller the best and most convenient deal at the time. At the other end of the spectrum, dealing with a reputable manufacturer directly means total consistency in terms of quality, time after time.
5 – Higher Prices
Last but not least, given the fact that most third-party resellers and middlemen are not in the habit of working for free, you simply have to expect that you will pay higher prices should you choose to involve them. Even if the price you pay is only slightly above that you’d pay if you dealt directly with the manufacturer, it is still money you could have saved. And not only is it money you could have saved, but it is money you could have saved while benefiting from a superior service package at the same time.
