Ways you can promote yourself as a nanny
As a nanny, your major purpose would be to get a job to a wealthy family, which is able to offer you the salary you want, but nowadays it might be quite hard to find an open position, because they seem to tighten their belts, and to be extremely cautious when they are choosing a nanny for their children. But this does not mean that you would not be able to find a job, because they are still looking for nannies, and if you have plenty of experience, you would not find the process as complicated as you might imagine. As you already know, it all depends on the way you promote your services, during the process of finding a nanny, parents are viewing a lot of offers, and they will interview only the persons whose ads raise their interest.
Improve your resume
If the last time you have applied for a job, you were not selected, you should take a look at your resume, and see how you can improve it, because only a standout one would help you attract the clients you are looking for. You should know that the resume is the most important tool a nanny has when she wants to market herself. For improving it, you should attach a photo of yourself in the resume, and it is recommended to be one that shows you playing with children. You should not try to save money when it comes to printing the resume, because it is advisable to use high-quality paper, and take care to proofread it and spell check it, before sending it to the parents.
Clean driving record
It is important for a nanny to have a driving license, because in this way she is able to take the children to different activities. But you should know that the parents will ask you for a clean driving record, because they trust their children’s safety into your hands. This is an advantage and you should definitely use it, because parents would be glad to hire a person who can take the children to different activities, and who can run errands and visit the doctor.
You have the possibility to make your portfolio as a photo album, scrapbook, or a three-ring binder, and it should include information, which would convince the parents to hire them. A great portfolio should include your current resume, copies of the degrees you have, letters of reference, and a list with the workshops, you have attended, the classes you have taken, and the awards you have received. In case you have a driver license, a CPR or first aid certification, or a Social Security card, you should not forget to include them, because they would bring you an advantage, when you compete with other nannies for the same position. You should also share with parents, photos of the activities you have done with the children of the families you used to work for, and references from the parents, because they represent a proof of your experience and professionalism.
